Great Plains Harmony is growing and on the move. GPH is a chorus of fifty men who perform a variety of music from barbershop to vocal jazz to gospel to choral arrangements. Our focus is to perform at the highest musical level and to entertain our audiences. Each member is committed to learning music outside of rehearsal so that valuable rehearsal time is spent improving the ensemble.
Founded May 23rd 1950, GPH is one of Fargo Moorhead’s longest established music ensembles. We have partnered with area arts groups including the Lake Agassiz Girls Choir, Red River Boys Choir and Vocal Express Women’s Choir. As members of the Barbershop Harmony Society, the chorus regularly competes and typically places as one of the top five choruses within a five state region.
Members of the chorus include farmers, doctors, college students, business owners and retired gentlemen. They all share a passion for singing and enjoy the camaraderie the ensemble provides.
Our concert season typically consists of a fall performance in the Fargo Theater, which is staged around a show theme. We pride ourselves in providing a fantastic entertainment experience and audiences agree! Our winter concert features a wider variety of literature and involves partnering with another arts organization.
Within the chorus there are a number of active quartets which perform throughout the community and the region. Members of the chorus are encouraged to participate in quartets to improve their skills as an independent singer.
Great Plains Harmony serves the community in a number of ways. We support the American Heart Association through the sale of Singing Valentines, support music educators in the area by helping to fund their activities and perform in area churches when possible.
Those interesting in singing in Great Plains Harmony are encouraged to visit a rehearsal as we are continually auditioning new members.
