About Great Plains Harmony
Great Plains Harmony is growing and on the move. We are a chorus of forty men who love to sing, and we are always looking to add more. We primarily focus on singing barbershop songs and barbershop arrangements of various genres, from jazz to rock to pop and more. We also occasionally sing non-barbershop songs like traditional choral arrangements and gospel. Our focus is to perform at the highest musical level and to entertain our audiences. Each member is committed to learning music outside of rehearsal so that valuable rehearsal time is spent improving the ensemble.
Founded May 23rd 1950, Great Plains Harmony is one of Fargo Moorhead’s longest established music ensembles. We have partnered with area arts groups including the Lake Agassiz Girls Choir, Red River Boys Choir and Vocal Express Women’s Choir. As members of the Barbershop Harmony Society, the chorus regularly competes and typically places as one of the top five choruses within a five state region.
Members of the chorus include farmers, doctors, college students, business owners and retired gentlemen. They all share a passion for singing and enjoy the camaraderie the ensemble provides.
Our season typically consists of a themed performance in the fall and a gospel show in the spring. We also provide singing Valentine's services every year, where quartets go out and sing love songs for individuals. Our chorus also engages in several smaller singing opportunities such as singing the Canadian and American anthems at the FM RedHawks. We pride ourselves in providing a fantastic entertainment experience and audiences agree!
Within the chorus there are a number of active quartets which perform throughout the community and the region. Members of the chorus are encouraged to participate in quartets to improve their skills as an independent singer. For more information on the current active quartets, visit the quartet booking page.
Those interested in singing in Great Plains Harmony are encouraged to visit a rehearsal as we are continually looking for new members. More information on that can be found here.
